Before you decide
Know what to expect.
Eligibility, testing, timing and booking terms—before you make a decision.
Is my student eligible for these assessments?
This assessment pathway serves eligible U.S. homeschool students. If your student attends a private or online school, contact TAC before registering so we can confirm the required school or provider arrangement. Students currently enrolled in public school are not eligible through this assessment pathway; contact us to discuss other planning options before purchasing Discovery.
Which assessments are used, and who administers them?
We coordinate NWEA MAP Growth achievement assessments in math, reading and language usage. These nationally normed, computer-adaptive tests adjust to your student’s answers. The assessment provider’s team administers the tests; TAC coordinates the process and connects the results with your family’s plan.
Allow approximately 60–90 minutes per subject, usually across separate appointments. Tests are untimed overall, and breaks are welcome. An adult supervises your student using a compatible computer or iPad, reliable internet and the required secure testing software. We provide setup instructions before testing.
When will we receive the results and recommendation?
Academic score reports are typically available within 1–2 days after each completed assessment. Your TAC recommendation follows the assessments, family-planning conversation and two sports trials. We arrange the appointments and follow-up call with you; the academic report turnaround is separate from the timing of your complete plan.
What do the scores tell us about my child?
Your report explains subject scores, national achievement percentiles and learning priorities. Percentiles compare your student with same-grade peers in the testing season; they are not the percentage of correct answers. Scores do not assign a school grade or guarantee placement. One assessment establishes a starting point; later assessments are needed to measure growth.
What does the study-habits review cover?
A separate TAC conversation explores organizing schoolwork, understanding instructions, asking for help and working independently. It informs practical recommendations alongside the academic assessments. Discovery is educational planning; formal learning-disability evaluations are arranged separately with an appropriately qualified specialist.
What if we need to cancel or reschedule?
For assessment cancellations, contact TAC at least 24 hours before the scheduled test. For illness or an emergency closer to the appointment, contact us promptly so we can request rescheduling; availability and provider terms apply. Tell us immediately about an illness or technical problem during testing.
The assessment appointment policy is separate from TAC’s full $500 package, which also includes planning, sports trials and follow-up. Review the package-specific cancellation, rescheduling and refund terms with TAC before payment. Unused enrollment credit is not a cash refund.
Ask about your Discovery bookingCan education funding help?
We review relevant funding and school benefits for your chosen path. TEFA applications for 2026–27 are closed. The official state site offers an interest list for 2027–28 updates. Eligibility, provider approval and eligible-expense rules determine what funds may cover; purchasing Discovery does not establish funding approval.
